Wireless Dog Fence — What Works (and What Doesn’t) in South Florida
“Wireless dog fence” usually means one of two things: a plug-in transmitter that projects a circular boundary around your house, or a GPS collar system like Halo™ or SpotOn™. Both promise no buried wire — and both come with limitations worth understanding before you buy.
Circular Wireless Systems
A plug-in wireless transmitter creates a round boundary — which rarely matches a real South Florida yard. The circle can’t follow property lines, exclude a pool deck or stop at a seawall, and the boundary edge shifts with interference from metal roofs, stucco walls and appliances. They suit only a narrow set of properties.
GPS Systems
No wire, but boundary drift, false corrections and subscription fees are common complaints — we cover the details on our GPS fence alternative page.
The Wired Alternative
An underground fence is invisible like wireless, but the boundary follows your actual property — any shape, any exclusion zone, precise to the inch, with no monthly fees. It’s what we install and service every day, and for most yards it’s the option we honestly recommend.
