Frequently Asked Questions
Below you may find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions about our Pet Stop containment systems.
How much does a dog fence cost?
Most installations in Broward and Palm Beach County run between $1,000 and $2,500. Variables that contribute to pricing are installation size and challenges, along with training and warranty choices and the number of pets being contained.
A free in-home consultation is always available to evaluate and discuss your specific needs, answer any and all questions, and provide a fully customizable quote with options for you to choose from. Phone consultations and email quotes can also be arranged if that is your preference.
Why is Pet Stop a better choice than other “invisible fence” companies?
Nationally, Pet Stop was founded in 1992, and is managed by a team of industry pioneers with the most experience and highest pet aptitude in the business. Pet Stop combines a genuine love of pets with an in-depth knowledge and commitment to technology to produce the finest, most reliable pet containment system in the world. Pet Stop® systems are designed and manufactured in the USA with imported parts. Every other pet containment “manufacturer” actually has their products made by other companies – and most do that in China.
Locally, no competitor can offer the extensive range of pet containment solutions we do, or even come close to the level of commitment offered by Pet Stop South Florida when it comes to ongoing service. In addition, only Pet Stop South Florida trainers are certified to offer low-stress Pet Stop GentleSteps™ Training Protocol, and only our equipment is designed to support it.
How do your warranty policies work?
Most premium Pet-containment systems offer some sort of lifetime warranty to cover manufacturing defects. Only our manufacturer offers Pet Stop UltraCare™! This Pet Stop® exclusive goes above industry lifetime warranties by offering not only a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, but also protection against accidental damage. Should you accidentally damage the equipment supplied with your system, you pay a deductible amount far less than the full retail cost of replacement. This is just one more advantage to owning a Pet Stop® system.
Does the system really work?
With professional installation and appropriate containment training, wired electronic pet fence systems are highly effective. Pet Stop of South Florida has provided professional pet containment since 2002, and Jeff Campbell has boundary-trained more than 25,000 dogs over his career in pet containment since 1994. Our Lifetime Containment Guarantee supports the installation and training process for customers who follow the required training instructions.
How old or how big does my dog have to be to start fence training?
There is no minimum size for a dog to be trained. We’ve trained dogs as small as 3 lbs and can select a small, lightweight Pet Stop receiver collar appropriate for the pet. Your pet should be well adjusted to the home environment before you start training and it is helpful if your dog is accustomed to its collar and leash before beginning training. Puppies can begin their fence training as early as ten to twelve weeks of age. They learn faster at this age than at any other time in their lives, and the low-stress Pet Stop GentleSteps™ training method is a perfect match for guiding young dog through the process with no negative side effects.
How long will it take to train my dog to the fence?
Most dogs can be trained in about ten to fourteen days. Our Pet Stop GentleSteps™ training protocol drastically reduces the stress of training and is more humane and effective than competitors’ methods.
Will it hurt my dog?
Like you, at Pet Stop South Florida we love pets. All pets! The last thing we’d ever want to do is harm them. Our focus is keeping them safe, not hurting them. Clinical research tests have been conducted by several different veterinary schools over many years, and the results proved that this type of static correction is harmless. Our system is designed with your pet’s safety in mind, and the correction techniques utilized work as a “startling effect” to reinforce the boundary training, rather than inflicting any sort of pain.
Does Pet Stop work inside my home?
Yes. Our Indoor system is every bit as effective as our Outdoor system, but operates on a slightly different principle. The Room Wizard™ indoor transmitter is designed to customize areas of the home for your pet to avoid rather than contain and can be use either as a wired or wireless solution.
Can I take my Pet Stop system with me if I move?
Absolutely. You can take your Pet Stop Transmitter(s) and Receiver(s) with you and then all you’ll need is wire installation for the boundaries at your new location. There are nearly 200 Pet Stop dealers in the USA, covering most areas nationwide. You can contact us for help un-installing your equipment and finding a Pet Stop Dealer in your new area.
Are your products compatible with other systems?
Compatibility depends on the brand and specific model. We can repair wire breaks, change boundaries, reinstall or service many wired systems. Some older Invisible Fence®, DogWatch®, PetSafe®, Dog Guard® and Innotek® components may be compatible, but we confirm the exact equipment before recommending repair, a compatible component or a complete Pet Stop upgrade.
What happens if my dog gets out?
Call us. Most of the time it’s something straightforward — the collar hasn’t been charged, a system without the optional battery backup has lost power, or the collar is being worn too loosely — and we can work that out with you over the phone. If there’s a consistent containment issue, we come back and adjust the programming, and do additional training with your dog if that’s what’s needed. That’s included, not an extra. Our Lifetime Containment Guarantee on the Link Ultra and Ecolite Pro systems means that if we cannot successfully contain your dog, we give you your money back.
How do I know my dog’s collar is still working?
Charging, and what it checks while it charges. The Pet Stop EcoLite receiver fully recharges in three hours and runs up to three weeks on a charge, depending on settings and how often the Pet Stop collar activates. We recommend charging weekly so it becomes routine.
Every charge is a test. The Pet Stop diagnostic charging cradle doesn’t just charge the receiver — it runs a functional check of the collar, including the correction itself, and tells you if the receiver needs service. As the manufacturer puts it, you discover any problem before your pet does.
That is worth weighing against a system running a two-year disposable battery. Between battery changes, nothing tests that collar. A weekly charge on a Pet Stop diagnostic cradle means the collar is verified working every week — roughly one hundred checks in the time another system gets none.
There are no replacement batteries to buy, none to keep on hand, and nothing to go hunting for when you can’t remember the last time you changed one. Every Pet Stop receiver flashes a low-battery alert, and the Pet Stop Link app shows live battery status.
Compared to a GPS collar, the Pet Stop EcoLite receiver is a different kind of ownership entirely. GPS collars need charging daily, sometimes more than once a day, because the collar runs a satellite receiver continuously. Three hours to full and up to three weeks of use is not the same commitment.
Three separate Pet Stop protections, and they cover different things.
Pet Stop UltraCare warranty covers the equipment, including accidents. Most premium containment brands warrant against manufacturing defects. The Pet Stop UltraCare warranty covers manufacturing defects for the life of the product and covers accidental damage — damage that was never a manufacturing failure. A Pet Stop receiver run over in the driveway, dropped, or chewed is replaced for a fee between $89 and $149 depending on whether it’s handled by shipping or by a Pet Stop service call — well below the retail cost of the part.
Pet Stop UltraCare coverage follows you, not the house. If you move and take your collars and transmitter with you, the Pet Stop UltraCare warranty moves too — honored by the Pet Stop dealer in your new area or by the manufacturer directly. Pet Stop equipment left behind for the next homeowner is no longer covered.
Pet Stop service covers the wire. The boundary wire itself carries no manufacturer warranty — no brand’s does. What we do instead: every Link Ultra package includes one year of Pet Stop installation and service at no charge, so routine lawn maintenance nicking the Pet Stop boundary wire in that first year is handled with no service call charge. Ecolite Pro includes six months of the same Pet Stop service coverage.
The Pet Stop Lifetime Containment Guarantee covers the outcome. It applies to our two premium Pet Stop packages:
- Link Ultra — the Pet Stop OT-300 transmitter with the Pet Stop EcoLite receiver with Link.
- Ecolite Pro — the Pet Stop EcoLite receiver with the Pet Stop PCC-200 Pro transmitter.
It does not apply to Perimeter Basic.
Containment problems are rare, and when they do happen the cause is almost always one of three things: the Pet Stop collar isn’t fitted properly, the battery hasn’t been changed or the collar hasn’t been charged, or somebody unplugged the Pet Stop transmitter to stop the beeping and didn’t mention it to anyone.
So if a containment problem continues, we ask for the opportunity to come out and do a thorough Pet Stop system check — confirm the transmitter, boundary and receiver are all working as they should, adjust the collar settings if the dog needs a different configuration, and provide additional GentleSteps training if that’s what the situation calls for.
If we work through all of that and still cannot contain your dog, you receive a full refund. There is no time limit on this.
Pet Stop equipment, service and result — each protected separately.
